Assam to build Rs 534 crore wildlife safari in Dibrugarh

The Assam government plans to establish a wildlife safari and rescue centre in the Dibrugarh district at an estimated cost of Rs 534 crore. Located across approximately 235 hectares in the Namdang Reserved Forest, the project aims to enhance wildlife conservation, research, and eco-tourism in the region.

The project will be executed by the Assam Public Works Department in two distinct phases. The first phase, costing roughly Rs 259 crore, will include enclosures for tigers, rhinoceroses, leopards, and bears, alongside a veterinary hospital and a specialized rescue centre for animal rehabilitation.

The second phase, valued at Rs 275 crore, will focus on exotic species such as Asiatic lions, cheetahs, zebras, and hippos, and will feature an advanced research facility. Officials expect the centre to boost local employment and strengthen wildlife tourism in Upper Assam due to its proximity to Dibrugarh town and the local airport.
