Assam to launch new Youth Welfare Department and investment schemes
The Assam government is set to establish a dedicated Department of Youth Welfare and Empowerment, with a formal launch targeted for September 17. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the new department will consolidate various youth-focused programs and services currently managed by multiple agencies, including the National Cadet Corps (NCC), the National Service Scheme (NSS), and employment exchanges.
The initiative aims to streamline coordination and create a single institutional framework to address employment, skill development, and leadership engagement for the state's youth.
In conjunction with these structural changes, the government is investing in the Mukhyamantrir Jibon Prerona Scheme. For the 2026–27 financial year, Rs 118.58 crore has been allocated to provide financial support to graduates preparing for competitive examinations and transitioning into the workforce.
