Assaults on Transport Workers Highlight Safety Concerns in Italy

A vigilante on duty at the former lighthouse area in Fiumicino was stabbed around 23:30 on Saturday. Police intervened after a colleague raised the alarm and the victim was taken to hospital with non‑serious injuries. Investigators are trying to identify the two men who entered the restricted construction zone and carried out the attack.

Later on 2 June, a Liberty Lines employee at the Favignana port was assaulted while assisting passengers disembarking from an aliscafo. The worker reported being struck in the face and head and receiving a strong kick to the side by a young local man. He was treated for multiple bruises and given a seven‑day medical prognosis. The incident has renewed focus on the safety of staff handling passenger boarding on the Egadi islands, especially during peak tourist periods.
