Assaults on Transport Workers Highlight Safety Concerns in Italy

A vigilante on duty at the former lighthouse area in Fiumicino was stabbed around 23:30 on Saturday. Later on 2 June, a Liberty Lines employee at the Favignana port was assaulted while assisting passengers disembarking from an aliscafo. The worker reported being struck in the face and head and receiving a strong kick to the side by a young local man. He was treated for multiple bruises and given a seven‑day medical prognosis. The incident has renewed focus on the safety of staff handling passenger boarding on the Egadi islands, especially during peak tourist periods.
