Brazilian Congress Passes National Intermunicipal Mobility Program

The Chamber of Deputies' Urban Development Committee approved Bill 6727/25, creating the National Intermunicipal Mobility Program for Brazil’s interior. The law aims to guarantee regular, safe and affordable public transport between municipalities, rural areas and isolated localities, linking residents to health, education and employment services. Preferred modes include buses, vans, micro‑buses, river vessels and other locally‑suitable solutions, with priority given to vulnerable users and trips essential for health and schooling. Funding will come from federal resources, supplemented by state and municipal contributions, and the program will be coordinated by the federal executive in partnership with local governments, transport agencies, the SUS and Suas health‑social networks. The proposal stresses continuous monitoring, public data disclosure and integration with existing patient‑transport services, positioning mobility as a fundamental right rather than a mere service.
