Assimpredil warns of construction crisis in Italy due to raw material shortages
Assimpredil, the association representing construction companies in Milan, Lodi, and Monza Brianza, has issued an alarm regarding a crisis that threatens to halt construction sites and cause significant financial losses. The association reports that a shortage of essential raw materials and extreme price volatility are forcing companies to choose between suspending works or operating at a loss.
Key issues identified include unpredictable price surges and supply delays, which complicate budget planning and economic margins. To combat domestic shortages, some firms are sourcing materials from abroad, leading to a noticeable increase in procurement costs. The association noted that these instabilities affect both ongoing projects and those already scheduled, including works funded by the PNRR.
Furthermore, Assimpredil highlighted a conflict between rigid public contracts, which often rely on fixed prices and timelines, and the rapidly evolving market. As market prices have already exceeded contract estimates, maintaining economic equilibrium has become increasingly difficult.
