Assisi administration defends “Vivere il Centro” urban strategy

The municipal administration of Assisi has defended its “Vivere il Centro” project following criticisms from opposition forces. Mayor Valter Stoppini and the city council emphasized that the initiative is a rigorous, strategic plan rather than a series of disconnected interventions.

The project aims to create a comprehensive strategic plan for the city's historic center, balancing the preservation of cultural heritage with the need for a modern, sustainable urban model. Key focus areas include residential stability, local commerce, quality of life, and the management of tourist flows.

To support this effort, the administration has established an intersectoral Project Unit, which will utilize technical expertise from external consultants, including Incipit Consulting. The administration clarified that while professional support is being used to provide objective analysis, final decision-making authority remains with elected officials. An operational meeting involving project members and experts is scheduled for mid-September.
