Assisi hosts 5th National Youth and Memory Day

Youth and Memory Day Assisi Saint Francis of Assisi Andrea Abodi Matteo Maria Zuppi

Approximately 300 young people aged 18 to 30 gathered in Assisi for the 5th National Youth and Memory Day. The initiative, promoted by Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi, focused on the value of memory and its ability to guide the choices of new generations.

The event was organized by the National Anniversaries Mission Structure in collaboration with the Italian Youth Agency and the National Committee for the celebration of the eighth centenary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi. Participants engaged in reflection at various Franciscan spiritual sites, including the Porziuncola, San Damiano, Rivotorto, the Lower Basilica of Saint Francis, and the Basilica of Saint Clare.

In a related event for the same national day, Cardinal Matteo Maria Zuppi, president of the Italian Episcopal Conference, met with youth in Sant’Anna di Stazzema. During this meeting, the Cardinal discussed themes of peace, Europe, and generational responsibility, meeting with survivors of the 1944 massacre and discussing the importance of transmitting historical memory.
