Assisi political dispute erupts over municipal debt settlement

In Assisi, political tension has resurfaced regarding the municipality's decision not to participate in a debt settlement program. Eolo Cicogna, leader of the “Eolo Cicogna Sindaco” list, has challenged Mayor Valter Stoppini's administration over the refusal to allow an eased definition of municipal debts, which would involve eliminating sanctions and interest.

Cicogna argues that the decision should have been treated as a political choice rather than a purely technical one. He specifically contested the administration's assessment of credits, suggesting that since some credits are considered uncertain, it would have been more advantageous to secure the principal through favorable settlement conditions rather than pursuing uncertain compulsory recovery methods.
