Assisi Youth March Draws Thousands for Reconciliation
On 2 August, thousands of young people from across Italy gathered at Santa Maria degli Angeli in Assisi for the Marcia del Perdono (March of Forgiveness). The participants, described as a “coral dough,” symbolised diverse individuals coming together to build unity through the act of reconciliation, rather than merely a cease‑fire. Organisers highlighted forgiveness as a bridge that transforms past violence into shared responsibility and collective well‑being.
The event emphasized that true reconciliation requires confronting history, acknowledging victims, and creating conditions that prevent future conflict, echoing broader calls for memory, justice and open archives in peace‑building processes.
