Assiut police arrest woman for murder of child in Egypt

Security forces in Assiut, Egypt, have solved the murder of 11-year-old Malak Zarif, whose body was discovered inside a bag near the Al-Qarshiya tunnel in the Dayrut district. The victim had been reported missing by her family in the village of Al-Nahaya following an intensive search.

Investigations revealed that the victim's brother's wife committed the crime to steal a small gold earring to alleviate financial difficulties. The suspect confessed to luring the child to her home, binding her hands and feet, and strangling her with a scarf.

To dispose of the body, the suspect placed it in a bag and hired a tuk-tuk driver, claiming the bag contained waste, to drop it near the tunnel. Police recovered the stolen gold earring from a jeweler in Dayrut, who stated he purchased the item in good faith. The suspect has been apprehended and referred to the public prosecution.
