Associació de Micropobles demands new regulations for rural schools
The Associació de Micropobles de Catalunya has called for a specific regulatory framework for rural schools to address their unique needs. During the first Convention on Rural Schools and Micropopulations held in Sant Martí Sesgueioles, representatives discussed requirements for funding, enrollment criteria, teaching staff stability, and the definition of Rural School Zones (ZER).
Joan Solà, president of the association and mayor of Riner, emphasized that rural schools serve as essential elements of community cohesion and require proper tools to ensure educational equality. The mayor of Sant Martí Sesgueioles added that these institutions require resources for stability rather than privileges.
Catalan Education Minister Esther Niubó acknowledged the pedagogical value of rural schools and stated that the government must respond to the need for a specific approach in educational planning.
