Association for Human Mathematics objects to OpenAI math paper release

OpenAI has released 722 mathematical manuscripts produced by an internal frontier model, following its controversial purported solution to the Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize problem. The company stated it has consulted with the Advisory Group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence at the Institute for Advanced Study regarding these results.

The Association for Human Mathematics (AHM) has formally objected to the release, characterizing the mass publication of files as a “demonstration of power” rather than a “demonstration of scholarship.” The AHM has urged mathematicians to cease collaboration with OpenAI to preserve a scientific vision centered on human understanding.

The tension highlights a growing divide in the scientific and literary communities regarding the role of artificial intelligence. While some leaders, such as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, express optimism about AI's potential to solve complex problems, others express concern over the impact of AI-generated content on traditional academic and creative standards.
