Association of Municipalities of Ontario signs MOU with Anishinabek Nation

The Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) has entered a new phase of cooperation with the Anishinabek Nation through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in Ottawa. The agreement, signed by AMO President Robin Jones, Grand Council Chief Linda Debassige, and Northern Superior Regional Chief Mel Hardy, establishes a framework for both groups to identify shared priorities and advance common goals through advocacy.

In related municipal developments, West Nipissing Mayor Kathleen Thorne Rochon was elected to the AMO board of directors as a member of the Northern caucus. During the AMO annual congress, West Nipissing officials met with provincial ministries to advocate for infrastructure improvements, including the installation of traffic lights at the intersection of Highway 575 and Highway 17 in Verner and repair projects at Minnehaha Bay.

Additionally, the Anishinabek Nation has been providing critical support to the Namaygoosisagagun First Nation following a devastating wildfire that destroyed community resources.
