Association of Prosecutors in Bulgaria warns of pressure over VSS elections

The Association of Prosecutors in Bulgaria (APB) has issued a warning regarding alleged pressure and threats directed at prosecutors and administrative leaders ahead of the upcoming Supreme Judicial Council (VSS) elections.

According to the APB, reports have surfaced involving threats of disciplinary actions, removals, media attacks, and the use of compromising information against those who refuse to provide support. Conversely, there are allegations of promises regarding appointments, promotions, and leadership positions in exchange for votes.

The Association expressed concern over insinuations of influence from ministers, political forces, institutions, and media circles. The APB stated that professional organizations should protect professional principles rather than serve as tools for personal election campaigns. The group urged any prosecutor facing pressure to report the matter to competent authorities, asserting that the VSS must be elected through free will and honesty rather than fear.
