Associazione Italiana Sommelier celebrates 50th issue of Vitae magazine

The Associazione Italiana Sommelier (AIS) is celebrating the 50th issue of its quarterly magazine, Vitae. Since its inception in March 2014, the publication has printed approximately 2 million copies and has expanded its reach through digital platforms like Vitae Online and the On AIS podcast.

To mark this milestone, AIS has introduced the 'Storie di Vitae' award, recognizing excellence in wine journalism, writing, photography, and communication. The inaugural recipient of the award is Alessandro Torcoli, editor and director of Civiltà del bere.

The celebration coincides with shifting consumption patterns in Italy. Data from the UIV–Vinitaly Observatory indicates that wine consumption habits are evolving: 61% of consumers now drink wine occasionally, compared to 39% who consume it daily. This is a significant shift from 2006, when the proportions were nearly reversed.

Additionally, consumer interests are diversifying. Approximately 63% of Italian tourists expressed interest in learning the history and anecdotes of wineries during wine-related travel. Among younger demographics, 61% of Generation Z consumers rely on online reviews and blogs when purchasing wine digitally.
