Associazione Luca Coscioni launches national campaign for accessible PMA
The Associazione Luca Coscioni, supported by over 50 associations, has launched a national mobilization to collect signatures for a popular legislative proposal. The campaign aims to reach 50,000 signatures to allow the deposit of a bill in the Italian Chamber of Deputies.
The proposal seeks to amend Article 5 of Law 40/2004, which currently restricts access to medically assisted procreation (PMA) to married or cohabiting heterosexual couples. Promoters argue this creates discrimination based on marital status and affective orientation, forcing many women to seek treatment abroad or forgo parenthood.
A national mobilization is scheduled from October 21 to October 31 across more than 50 Italian squares. Supporters note that the Constitutional Court has indicated there are no constitutional obstacles to removing the current restrictions, leaving the decision to Parliament.
