Italy issues summer health guidance for travelers and beachgoers

Italian health organisations have issued advice for summer vacations. A meeting organised by Assosalute and Federchimica highlighted that 90 % of Italians pack at least one over‑the‑counter drug in their luggage, with women more likely (92 %) and one in three customizing kits for the destination. Recommended items include sunscreen, moisturising creams, antiseptics, anti‑inflammatory topicals, and measures to prevent dehydration and gastrointestinal upset, along with guidance on proper storage of medicines while traveling.

Separately, a study co‑led by the market‑research firm Toluna coined the term “beachtimidation” to describe anxiety about appearing in swimwear. The survey found 46 % of U.S. adults feel uncomfortable, 33 % would rather visit a dentist than expose themselves on the beach, and 82 % of respondents in the United Kingdom report embarrassment about their bodies. One in seven people avoid the beach entirely, and 24 % of Generation Z consider skipping seaside trips. Human metabolist and internist Cristina Tomasi advises focusing on metabolic health rather than weight, recommending regular strength training, protein‑rich meals, adequate sleep, exposure to natural light, and inflammation reduction to improve body confidence and overall well‑being during the summer.
