Asst Lariana issues summer skin‑protection guide for oncology patients

The Asst Lariana health authority in Italy released a detailed vademecum to help cancer patients protect their skin during the summer months. The guide, authored by oncology chief Dr. Monica Giordano, radiotherapy chief Dr. Sofia Meregalli and PICC‑team leader Dr. Alessio Petrone, advises patients undergoing radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy or hormonal therapy to avoid direct sun exposure on treated areas, use broad‑spectrum sunscreen, wear covering clothing (preferably cotton or linen) and stay out of peak UV hours between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

It also stresses the importance of regular skin hydration with moisturizers containing wheat‑germ oil, vitamin E or allantoin, and provides specific instructions for venous access devices: implanted ports may be immersed in water if not in use and the overlying skin is intact, while PICC lines must be kept dry and protected from sand, water and contaminants.
