ASST Ovest Milanese joins Lombardy's top-tier vascular surgery network
The Lombardy Region has officially established a new regional network for vascular surgery through deliberation n. XII/6657. This initiative introduces an organizational model for managing patients with both acute and chronic aortic diseases.
As part of this new classification, ASST Ovest Milanese, specifically the Legnano Hospital, has been designated as a Group A center. This is the highest tier within the regional network, authorizing the facility to manage the full spectrum of aortic pathology. This includes complex procedures such as treatments for the thoracic aorta and interventions using custom and branched endoprostheses.
The designation is based on data analysis from the National Outcomes Program and Hospital Discharge Records for the 2023-2025 period. The hospital performs over 600 cardiac surgeries annually, including approximately 100 operations for aortic pathologies and 50 high-complexity procedures conducted through collaboration between cardiac and vascular surgery departments.
The regional network aims to prioritize early screening and identification of vascular disease patients, integration with existing cardio-cerebro-vascular networks (including infarct, stroke, and cardiovascular rehabilitation networks), and the implementation of shared diagnostic and therapeutic pathways.
