Roberto Occhiuto faces indictment request for aggravated fraud
The Rome Prosecutor’s Office has requested an indictment against Roberto Occhiuto, the President of the Calabria Region, for aggravated fraud. The investigation focuses on monthly reimbursements totaling 3,893 euros that Occhiuto allegedly received for the use of a regional service vehicle, an Audi Q4.
Investigators allege that Occhiuto already had access to another vehicle, an Audi Q6, provided through a regional leasing contract for which he also received reimbursements. Occhiuto has denied the allegations via social media, stating that he used the service vehicle occasionally for institutional duties, such as inspecting public works sites.
The Democratic Party of Calabria has criticized Occhiuto’s response to the investigation, urging him to respect the judiciary and the presumption of innocence rather than characterizing the proceedings as a personal persecution.
