AST Ascoli to install new Horizon W densitometer for nuclear medicine unit
The Azienda Sanitaria Territoriale (AST) of Ascoli Piceno announced the purchase of a new bone densitometry device, the Horizon W, for its nuclear medicine unit. Director General Antonello Marlado signed the procurement order on 29 July 2026, allocating €97,600 of company funds. The equipment will replace the broken densitometer at the Mazzoni Hospital and is scheduled for installation in September.
The unit, led by Brunella Rossi and supported by radiology director Fabio D’Emidio, expects the new device to increase the number of bone‑density exams, improve early detection of osteoporosis, shorten waiting times, and enhance coordination among radiology, internal medicine, orthopaedics, geriatrics, rheumatology, endocrinology and primary care. Officials describe the acquisition as a high‑value health and social investment that will boost diagnostic quality and fracture‑prevention services for local residents.
