Ast ordered to compensate workers over contract abuse
The Court of Urbino has ordered Ast, the successor to Asur Marche, to pay compensation to two technical operators following rulings regarding the unlawful repetition of fixed-term contracts. The workers, who served as video terminal operators in Urbino and Fossombrone, had been employed through a continuous chain of contracts and extensions lasting between four and nine years.
The court determined that these arrangements could no longer be classified as responses to temporary needs, as the company was aware the roles were structural. While Italian public employment law does not automatically grant permanent status even in cases of contract abuse, the court awarded the workers a total of approximately 30,400 euros in indemnities, plus interest and expenses. The rulings have been forwarded to the regional Prosecutor of the Court of Auditors.
