Games of the Future 2026 Opens in Astana with Phygital Sports Debut
The Games of the Future 2026 officially opened in Astana on 29 July with a ceremony at Barys Arena. President Kassym‑Jomart Tokayev addressed the audience, and presidents of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan were also present.
More than 800 participants from over 50 nationalities are competing in eight phygital disciplines, including Phygital Basketball, PUBG Battle Royale and Dota 2, for a combined prize pool exceeding US$4 million. The Montenegrin team Dangerous Meridianbet defeated the Chinese team Handsome MDMX 37‑31 in the opening Phygital Basketball match.
Organised by Samruk‑Kazyna and supported by international sport, technology and innovation leaders, the 12‑day event aims to showcase the convergence of physical sport and esports on a global stage.
