Astronomers have identified a 710-meter-wide asteroid, designated 2025 MN45, which exhibits an unprecedented rotation speed. The celestial body completes a full rotation every 1.88 minutes, defying standard physical expectations for objects of its size.
Typically, large asteroids composed of loose debris and dust cannot rotate faster than once every 2.2 hours without disintegrating due to weak gravity. However, the rapid rotation of 2025 MN45 suggests it possesses a solid, monolithic internal structure rather than being a loose collection of fragments. This high density and structural integrity allow it to withstand intense centrifugal forces while traveling through the asteroid belt.
