Asthma management and exercise safety
Asthma is characterized by chronic bronchial inflammation that causes reversible airway obstruction, leading to symptoms such as shortness of breath, coughing, wheezing, and chest tightness. Depending on severity, the condition is classified as mild, moderate, or severe, with symptoms varying in frequency and impact on daily activities.
There are five primary types of asthma: allergic (extrinsic), non-allergic (intrinsic), seasonal, occupational, and exercise-induced. Exercise-induced asthma specifically triggers symptoms during or after physical activity. While exercise is generally beneficial for health, asthma in athletes can significantly impact both performance and quality of life.
