Asthma risks rise during seasonal weather changes in Northern Vietnam

Seasonal weather transitions in Northern Vietnam, characterized by fluctuations in temperature and humidity, are increasing the risk of asthma attacks. Dr. Nguyen Huu Truong, Deputy Director of the Center for Allergy and Clinical Immunology at Bach Mai Hospital, notes that sudden exposure to cold or dry air can irritate airways and cause bronchial spasms.

Medical experts warn against a common mistake where patients stop taking prescribed controller medications once they feel better. While rescue inhalers provide rapid relief by dilating the bronchi, they do not address the underlying airway inflammation. Relying solely on rescue medication without following a prescribed controller regimen, such as inhaled corticosteroids (ICS), can lead to poor disease management and a higher risk of acute exacerbations.
