Astillero San Enrique delivers solar marine platform in Vigo

Astillero San Enrique has completed the delivery of ‘Catarroja’, a solar marine platform developed by BlueNewables in collaboration with Naturgy. This marks the shipyard’s entry into the offshore renewable energy sector. The platform, which has a capacity of 500 kW, follows the recent delivery of the ‘Paiporta’ platform, representing the first pre-commercial scale floating marine energy installations in Spain.

Leadership at the shipyard and its parent group, Marina Meridional, emphasized the facility's capacity to diversify into the blue economy and energy transition. Despite recent investments exceeding 12 million euros and the maintenance of 250 direct jobs, officials expressed a need for industrial stability. Specifically, they are awaiting a decision from the Port Authority of Vigo regarding the concession of the land on which the shipyard operates, noting that the current status of the concession is a factor in their long-term planning.
