Aston Martin evaluates engine options amid 2026 F1 struggles

Aston Martin is facing a challenging 2026 Formula 1 season due to significant power deficits from its Honda engine partnership. While Fernando Alonso secured a ninth-place finish at the Dutch Grand Prix following chassis updates, team director Mike Krack warned that the team's performance remains highly dependent on circuit characteristics, noting that upcoming tracks with long straights like Monza and Baku may expose ongoing limitations.

Due to these technical struggles, the team's long-term ambitions have shifted. Lawrence Stroll’s original goal of reaching the top of F1 within five years has been extended, with a major competitive leap now projected for 2027 or even 2031.

In response to the underwhelming engine performance, which has occasionally seen the cars struggle against lower-tier racing categories in top speed, Aston Martin is reportedly exploring contingency plans. The team has reportedly made contact with Mercedes and Red Bull Powertrains to evaluate a potential change in engine suppliers starting in 2028, should Honda fail to meet expectations by 2027.
