Aston Martin to build completely new AMR27 car for 2027 F1 season
Aston Martin technical director Enrico Cardile has announced that the team will build a completely new car, the AMR27, for the 2027 Formula 1 season. Following a difficult 2026 campaign marked by low points and performance struggles with the Honda power unit, the team intends to move away from its current design philosophy. Cardile stated that “every single part will be new” and “everything will have been improved,” though the car will conceptually evolve from the current direction.
The project aims to leverage lessons learned during the 2026 season to maximize development freedom. Adrian Newey is also noted for his role in navigating upcoming technical regulation changes, such as modifications to the front underbody.
Parallel to the technical overhaul, uncertainty remains regarding driver Fernando Alonso’s future. While speculation suggests a potential move to the World Endurance Championship, team ambassador Pedro de la Rosa noted that Alonso will decide when he feels the time is right. Additionally, the team has secured a partnership with Fondmetal to supply magnesium wheels, marking the Italian company's return to Formula 1.
