Aston Martin plans major mid‑season upgrade after weak showings in Monaco and Barcelona

Aston Martin’s Formula 1 campaign hit a low point at the Monaco and Barcelona Grands Prix, where both drivers qualified at the back of the grid. Team boss Mike Krack said the poor results highlighted deficiencies across the whole car, with Fernando Alonso describing the AMR26 as “the worst car and the worst engine on the grid.” In response, the team is preparing an extensive upgrade package, overseen by chief designer Adrian Newey, that is expected to debut at the Belgian Grand Prix in mid‑July. In the meantime, the team may unveil a radically redesigned version of the AMR26 at the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix, roughly a month away, in an effort to close the performance gap before the new parts arrive.
