Fernando Alonso extends Aston Martin contract through 2027
Fernando Alonso has signed a contract extension with Aston Martin, ensuring he will compete in Formula 1 through at least the end of 2027. The deal, which reportedly exceeds 40 million dollars per season, allows the Spaniard to continue racing at age 46.
During the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend held at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, Lewis Hamilton praised Alonso’s abilities, stating, “There's a lot of drivers at the front who can't compete with Fernando, on pure talent. He's just not able to show that at the moment.”
Despite the contract news, Aston Martin has faced a difficult 2026 season, struggling with car performance and Honda power unit limitations. The team has managed only three points so far this season, all scored by Alonso. In recent practice sessions at Sepang, Mercedes' Andrea Kimi Antonelli topped the charts in FP3, ahead of Max Verstappen, while Alonso finished 12th.
