Honda's New F1 Power Unit Debuts Early with Aston Martin at Hungaroring
Honda announced that its updated 2026 Formula 1 power unit will run on Aston Martin’s AMR26 chassis during a filming‑day session at the Hungaroring on Wednesday, ahead of the scheduled summer shutdown. The test is limited to a maximum of 200 km and is intended to gather vital integration data before the unit’s official competitive debut at the Dutch Grand Prix in August.
At the Hungarian Grand Prix the team showed significant progress with its B‑spec AMR26, delivering its first Q2 appearance of the season for Fernando Alonso and finishing 13th (Lance Stroll) and 14th (Alonso). The upgrades – a 16‑item package led by chief technical officer Adrian Newey – moved Aston Martin to 10th in the constructors’ standings, one point ahead of newcomer Cadillac. Honda’s track‑side general manager and chief engineer Shintaro Orihara confirmed the early shakedown and said the data collected will help the power unit deliver lap‑time gains at Zandvoort.
