Honda power‑unit test at Hungaroring ahead of Dutch Grand Prix
Honda Racing performed a 200 km filming‑day test of its upgraded B‑spec power unit on 29 July 2026 at the Hungaroring. The run used non‑race Pirelli tyres and was the first on‑track appearance of the new specification that will debut in competition at the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort after the summer break.
The upgrade is expected to deliver roughly 30–50 hp more than the previous unit and to shave about 0.5–2 seconds per lap, addressing earlier vibration and reliability problems. Honda chief Shintaro Orihara said the test is a “vital step” for gathering data before the mid‑season break.
Aston Martin had already introduced a package of 16 chassis upgrades at the Hungarian Grand Prix, which helped Lance Stroll finish 13th and Fernando Alonso 14th, with Alonso reaching Q2 for the first time this season. The team hopes the new engine, enabled by the FIA’s ADUO development‑upgrade scheme, will turn those chassis gains into consistent points‑scoring performances.
