Aston Villa defeats Indonesia All Stars 3-1 in Jakarta pre‑season friendly

Aston Villa won 3-1 against Indonesia All Stars at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta on 1 August 2026. Villa’s goals came from Emiliano Buendía (3rd minute), Ross Barkley (45th minute) and Brian Madjo (57th minute). Indonesia’s lone goal was scored by Arkhan Kaka in the 83rd minute.

Alejandro Garnacho made his debut for Villa, started the match and played the first 45 minutes. After the game he posted on Instagram: “First start after three months. Happy to be enjoying football again,” a message widely read as a subtle dig at his parent club Chelsea. Coach Unai Emery praised the win and said he was optimistic about rebuilding the squad. Goalkeeper James Wright said the Indonesian tour was a valuable experience and complimented the opposition. Indonesia All Stars coach Kurniawan Dwi Yulianto highlighted his team’s bravery and tactical discipline, especially in covering Garnacho. Midfielder Jordy Wehrmann suffered a shoulder injury during the match and was taken to hospital.
