Aston Villa extends Amadou Onana's contract until 2031

Aston Villa has reached an agreement with midfielder Amadou Onana to extend his contract until 2031. The decision serves as a significant show of confidence from the club following a severe injury to the Belgian international.

Onana suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during a match against the United States at the World Cup, an injury that has sidelined him for much of the current season. The extension is intended to support his rehabilitation process and secure his market value. Previously, Onana was linked with a move to Manchester United, but his knee injury effectively halted any potential transfer during the summer window.

To manage the squad depth during Onana's absence, Aston Villa has signed Leon Goretzka on a free transfer. The experienced German midfielder, formerly of Bayern Munich, has signed a contract until mid-2028 with an option for an additional year. This move follows the departure of Youri Tielemans to Manchester United, which had also impacted the club's midfield stability.
