Aston Villa faces injury crisis ahead of new season

Aston Villa faces a growing injury crisis heading into the new season following a series of setbacks during their pre-season preparations. The club recently suffered a 2-1 defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach in Germany, a match that saw further fitness concerns for the squad.

Young talent Brian Madjo sustained an injury during the European Super Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain. Additionally, João Gomes and Tammy Abraham have been sidelined, with Gomes expected to miss between two and four weeks. The midfield has been particularly hard hit; the club is already without Amadou Onana due to an ACL injury sustained during the World Cup, and Johan Manzambi remains unavailable due to a prior injury.

Manager Unai Emery is also managing the fitness of key players Ollie Watkins, Emiliano Martínez, and Ezri Konsa, who were granted extended rest periods following international duties. These cumulative absences leave the squad facing significant depth challenges as they prepare for their season opener against Brighton.
