Aston Villa reaches agreement to sign Matteo Ruggeri from Atlético Madrid

Aston Villa has reached an agreement with Atlético de Madrid for the transfer of Italian left-back Matteo Ruggeri. The deal is reportedly structured with a guaranteed base fee of approximately €18 million, plus up to €6 million in performance-related add-ons, potentially bringing the total package to €24 million.

Ruggeri, 24, has given his approval for the move and is currently negotiating personal terms regarding his contract. The transfer aims to address a vacancy in Aston Villa's defense following the departure of Lucas Digne to Paris Saint-Germain.

Ruggeri joined Atlético de Madrid from Atalanta in July 2025. During his single season in La Liga, he made 26 appearances. The move to the Premier League represents a significant step for the defender as he seeks to establish himself in England.
