AstraZeneca and Amgen report positive Phase III results for Tezspire in EoE treatment

AstraZeneca and Amgen have announced that Tezspire (tezepelumab) met both co-primary and all key secondary endpoints in the Phase III CROSSING trial for eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study involved 368 patients aged 12 to 80.

At week 24, the treatment achieved statistically significant improvements in histologic remission and in the frequency and severity of dysphagia. These benefits were sustained through week 52. The trial evaluated subcutaneous injections of low-dose or high-dose Tezspire every four weeks alongside standard background medications, such as proton pump inhibitors and topical corticosteroids.

EoE is a chronic inflammatory condition of the esophagus that can cause food impaction and narrowing. Currently, nearly half of patients fail to achieve adequate control with first-line therapies. Tezepelumab, a monoclonal antibody that inhibits thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP), is already approved for severe asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps in over 70 countries.
