Astrid Mair seeks police leadership role while remaining in Tyrolean government

Astrid Mair, the Tyrolean state councilor for security from the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), has applied for the position of deputy head of the foreign police department within the state police directorate. Despite applying for this high-level role, Mair intends to remain a member of the state government.

Mair, a former police officer, stated that if she is appointed, she would seek a solution similar to her previous role as district police commander in Kufstein, where she was released from duty to serve in politics. She suggested that a colleague could represent her in the police role until she eventually returns to executive duties. Mair emphasized her passion for politics and her desire to secure her career path within the police force, noting her extensive experience in the field.

The application has reportedly caused dissatisfaction within the Tyrolean ÖVP. Mair noted that she was the only interested candidate and that the final decision is currently pending in Vienna.
