Astro organizes charity cycling event to support cancer patient transport
The Astro volunteer association is organizing a non-competitive charity cycling event, the Memorial Giorgio Zamengo, scheduled for Sunday, October 4, 2026. The approximately 70-kilometer route begins at the Ospedale Cardinal Massaia in Asti, travels to Canelli, and returns to the hospital.
Proceeds from the event will support the Pulmino Amico service, which provides free transportation for cancer patients. This service utilizes four seven-seater minibuses and relies on over 150 volunteers. Astro, which was founded in 1994, recently merged with Progetto Vita, an organization that has supported oncology patients in Day Hospitals for over thirty years.
Participants are required to use a racing bike or mountain bike and wear a helmet. The registration fee is 10 euros, with free entry for children up to 11 years old. The route includes stops in several municipalities, including Isola d’Asti, Costigliole, Calosso, Canelli, San Marzano Oliveto, Agliano Terme, Montegrosso, and Vigliano.
