Mirjana Cingeli completes Ironman distance with prosthetic hip
Mirjana Cingeli, a 52-year-old physical education professor and swimming coach from Sremska Mitrovica, Serbia, has successfully completed an Ironman distance triathlon in Greece. Despite being told by doctors that she would never run again following a hip operation that left one leg three centimeters shorter than the other, Cingeli overcame significant physical challenges.
During the competition, she swam 3.8 kilometers, cycled 180 kilometers, and ran a full marathon of 42.2 kilometers. She completed the total 226-kilometer course in 15 hours and 49 minutes, securing third place in the women's 50–55 age category. To manage her physical limitations, Cingeli utilized a special insert to compensate for the leg length difference and had to relearn her running gait.
