Asturian cultural centers highlighted at World Congress in Buenos Aires
The V World Congress of Asturiania opened in Buenos Aires, marking the first time the event has been held abroad. The congress brings together representatives from Asturian cultural centers worldwide to discuss the preservation of regional identity and traditions.
During the closing remarks, the President of the Principality of Asturias, Adrián Barbón, described these international centers as ‘the best embassies of Asturias in the world,’ highlighting their strategic role in promoting regional culture. A primary challenge identified by participants is the need for generational renewal to ensure the continuity of these institutions.
The event, held at the Centro Asturiano de Buenos Aires, highlights the significant presence of the Asturian diaspora in Argentina, which consists of approximately 38,000 people. The congress included cultural performances, such as a tango dedicated to the ‘Mother of the Emigrant,’ symbolizing the historical connection between the region and its emigrant communities.
