Asturias advances LGTBI rights and housing legislation

In Asturias, Spain, the recent approval of the ‘Law of the Principality of Asturias for the eradication of discrimination and for the real and effective equality of rights of lesbian, gay, trans, bisexual, and intersex persons and their families’ has prompted calls for broader legislative action. The UGT union is demanding that all Spanish autonomous communities implement similar LGTBI laws to ensure equality in employment, education, healthcare, and social services, arguing that rights should not depend on a person's place of residence.

Simultaneously, political factions in Asturias are working toward the approval of a regional housing law. While a pact has been reached between the PSOE, IU, and Covadonga Tomé, the legislation faces legal scrutiny regarding its alignment with constitutional and state regulations. A primary point of contention involves mandates for large property owners in high-demand areas to designate certain properties as primary residences, a measure that has faced legal challenges in other regions like Catalonia.
