Asturias approves AI strategy to modernize public administration

The Government of Asturias has approved the ‘Encina’ strategy, a nodal plan for Artificial Intelligence capabilities spanning 2026 to 2031. The initiative aims to increase administrative efficiency, transparency, and citizen service quality by integrating AI into public management.

Key pillars of the strategy include AI services for administration, cybersecurity, advanced data management, and experimental spaces for new technologies. Specific applications will focus on streamlining file management, administrative processing, and document analysis to reduce bureaucratic burdens.

Planned tools include the public supercomputers Apolo and Cova, as well as a virtual assistant designed to support social services, particularly for individuals facing loneliness or dependency issues. The government is currently evaluating bids from 25 companies for these services, with expected adjudication before the end of the year.
