Asturias awards Medals of Asturias to Real Oviedo and Joaquín Pixán
The Government of the Principality of Asturias has awarded the Medals of Asturias, the region's highest institutional distinction, to several individuals and organizations. The ceremony took place during the official Asturias Day celebrations at the Auditorio Príncipe Felipe in Oviedo.
Among the medal recipients are the football club Real Oviedo, marking its centenary, and tenor and cultural manager Joaquín Pixán, recognized for his extensive work in promoting Asturian song. Other medalists include journalist Isidoro Nicieza, musician and educator Nacho Fonseca, and the Emburria Association, which focuses on disability inclusion.
In addition to the medals, several honorary titles were granted. Juan Antonio Pérez Simón, Isidro Fernández Rozada, Mari Luz Cristóbal Caunedo, and José Sierra were named favorite sons (hijos predilectos). Honorary citizenship (hijos adoptivos) was awarded to Paz Fernández Felgueroso, Saúl Craviotto, Maruja Torres, Yayoi Kawamura, Adolfo Rivas, and Consuelo Martínez.
