Asturias beaches face disappearance due to climate change

A report by the NGO Greenpeace, titled ‘Destrucción a toda costa 2025: impactos del urbanismo y el cambio climático en el litoral’, warns that twelve beaches in eastern Asturias are at risk of disappearing due to climate change.

The report identifies these areas as having a high risk of recession and frequent flooding. The combination of rising sea levels and extreme weather phenomena is expected to increase coastal erosion. Projections suggest a moderate sea-level rise of 24 centimeters by 2050 for the Asturian coast.

Specific vulnerable locations include beaches in the municipalities of Ribadesella, Llanes, and Ribadedeva. Additionally, the report notes that rising sea levels will significantly alter the region's estuaries, affecting their morphology and sedimentary balance.
