Asturias businesses seek to attract talent through better career visibility

A study conducted by Compromiso Asturias XXI, titled ‘III Barometer on the talent needs demanded by Asturian companies’, highlights a critical need for the region to improve professional visibility and career progression to retain talent. While Asturias remains an attractive place to live, the report suggests the region faces a lack of talent fixation rather than a lack of attractiveness.

According to José Canseco, a collaborator and coordinator of the Barometer, talent follows opportunities rather than territory. The study notes that while 92% of emigrated talent expresses a desire to return to Asturias, the region must offer more than just quality of life; it must provide visible professional paths and innovation-driven ecosystems.

Key findings from the survey of 50 companies include a high demand for profiles in engineering, industry, new technologies, and management. Many businesses reported a need for candidates with two to three years of experience, and 64% of surveyed companies intend to hire staff in the short term. To combat the shortage of specialized professionals, the report suggests enhancing the value proposition of both large and small-to-medium enterprises.
