Asturias emergency services challenge new Civil Protection Bill
The Civil Protection and Emergency Management Bill in Asturias is facing significant opposition from emergency service workers. Representatives from the Servicio de Emergencias del Principado de Asturias (SEPA) are scheduled to present objections to the General Junta, citing concerns over the potential disintegration of services and the politicization of operations.
Key criticisms include a lack of regulation regarding everyday emergencies—such as house fires and traffic accidents—and uncertainty regarding a unified command structure. Workers expressed concern that essential competencies, including fire investigation, might be dispersed among different administrative departments. They argue the current draft focuses excessively on civil protection rather than the routine emergency responses that constitute the majority of SEPA's daily interventions.
