Asturias experiences severe storms and flooding
Severe weather across the Asturias region of Spain has caused significant material damage, including flooding in Oviedo and reports of a possible tornado in Gozón.
In Oviedo, intense rainfall led to severe flooding in the Fozaneldi district. A garage on Mayorazu Street was inundated by a sudden torrent of water, damaging approximately 50 vehicles and destroying personal belongings such as electronics and tools. Residents reported that the water entered with the force of a waterfall, and firefighters worked through the night to pump out the floodwaters.
In the municipality of Gozón, specifically in Antromero, a high-intensity atmospheric phenomenon—potentially a tornado or a wet microburst—damaged roofs, agricultural facilities, and greenhouses. Wind gusts also knocked down trees and damaged urban furniture. While the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has not yet confirmed the exact nature of the phenomenon due to a lack of local weather stations, the event caused widespread disruption, including broken vehicle windows and damage to a community swimming pool.
