Asturias General Council to vote on LGTBI and childhood laws
The General Council of the Principality of Asturias is set to vote on two significant pieces of legislation next week: an LGTBI rights law and a law concerning childhood and adolescence.
The LGTBI law aims to establish a specific legal framework for the region, addressing what supporters call a historical demand from the collective and responding to rising homophobic aggression. Xabel Vegas, spokesperson for Convocatoria por Asturies, noted that Asturias is among the few autonomous communities without its own specific legal framework on this matter.
The childhood and adolescence law has also moved forward after the Council rejected amendments to the totality filed by the Vox party. Vox has opposed both texts, arguing that equality before the law does not require differentiated treatment based on specific collectives and that child protection should primarily reside with families rather than administrative structures.
